Family Based Information
• An American Citizen can sponsor:
1. His/her spouse and children under age of 21 to become permanent residents.
2. His/her parents.
Special Note: In the first two categories, the immigrant visas are always available; however, it may take up to one year for these family members to enter the United States due to the delay of processing of papers.
3. His/her unmarried sons and daughters. A divorced child of the U.S. citizen is also considered in this category. There is a waiting period of about 3 years for this category. He/she can immigrate with his/her minor children.
4. His/her married sons and daughters along with their children. There is a waiting period of at least 5 years for this category.
5. His/her brothers and sisters along with their spouses and minor children. There is a waiting period of about 12 years for this category.
• A Permanent Resistance of the United States can sponsor:
1. His/her spouse and unmarried children under age of 21 years old.
